About South Charlotte Baseball Programs

Thank you for considering South Charlotte Baseball! We strive to provide a comprehensive baseball program for players of all experience and ability levels from age 4 through 18.

Mission Statement of South Charlotte Baseball

The mission of South Charlotte Baseball and affiliated programs is to serve the needs of the youth baseball community in South Charlotte. South Charlotte Baseball will provide opportunities for learning, development and competition for youth players of all levels from the introductory player to the experienced, longtime player who is considered a prospect for his or her high school or college baseball team.

General Program Information.

Rec Ball will provide the traditional sign up and players will be placed on a team to play among other teams from the neighborhood. Rec ball is about SPORTSMANSHIP, OPPORTUNITY and LEARNING. Through recreation league baseball, players should be exposed to multiple positions and should experience offensive and defensive game situations at an introductory level. A player in rec should ideally identify a position they like, a second position that is reasonably well-matched to their skills, and players should have the opportunity to play positions they might never have the opportunity to experience. The rec experience will consist of one weeknight practice and one weekend practice per week before the start of games. Once games begin, the schedule will consist of a weeknight game, a weekend game and a weekend practice per week. In some divisions, there will be an end-of-season tournament.

Challenge is for players that show an elevated interest or aptitude in baseball. Challenge is NOT an extensive practice season for All-Stars. It is an opportunity for players to experience the positions at which they excel at a deeper, more competitive level. Additionally, it provides an opportunity for players to see if they can play positions at a higher level, even if it is not the primary position for that player. The keys to Challenge are PASSION, OPPORTUNITY, SPORTSMANSHIP and COMPETITION. Note that the goal of Challenge is not winning. It is still opportunity and discovery of a player’s interest and ability.

In the Summer, there is an All-Stars program at South Charlotte. In the past, All-Stars has recognized the best individual players from the Rec league. These players have been required to play rec ball and will continue to be required to do so. In the All-Star environment, a player learns to excel at the position to which they are assigned. Most All-Stars players will have participated in Challenge, and through Challenge, should have received an opportunity to try several positions. In All-Stars, they are assigned a position by the coach, and must learn nuances and situations at that position that may be less critical in Rec or Challenge. Their role becomes to excel at their position and help the team win. Keys to All-Stars are TEAMWORK, COMMITMENT, SPORTSMANSHIP and COMPETITION.

South Charlotte Baseball is affiliated with Cal Ripken/Babe Ruthand Nations Baseball. This allows more players the opportunity to play baseball throughout the summer. Cal Ripken All-Star teams, players still must participate in rec baseball.
